Choosing the Perfect Photographer: Advice from Our Toronto Wedding Photography Experts

Although weddings are exciting times, they can be equally as stressful – between choosing the right theme to the deciding on the food, there’re plenty of things that will be on your mind. At The Photo Studio, we understand the importance of choosing the perfect photographer and our Toronto wedding photography experts have listed some tips on how to do so below.

The Earlier the Better

Don’t put off your search until the last minute – get your photographer chosen as soon as possible. Why? The best wedding photographers will typically book their schedules a year in advance, sometimes more, so you’re going to want to get one booked to take the stress off of your back. Try to give yourself at least six months to find a photographer to make things as easy as possible.

Use Your Connections

Ask all of your friends and family for their wedding and engagement photography connections and look into them to see if their work is suitable for what you want. You shouldn’t have a problem finding some local ones with a good reputation, but keep in mind that a good reputation doesn’t mean that they’re the right choice for you. Take your time and find one whose work appeals to you and your wedding ideas the most.

Narrow Down

After you’ve gotten some information and exposure to the potential choices that you have, start narrowing them down into a pool of the ones that you think are the best fit for your needs. When doing this, consider factors such as their experience, what kind of environments they typically shoot in and if their price range is in your budget. Also consider the tone of the photos and compare it to the vision that you have for your wedding.

Interview

Take the list of the Toronto wedding photographers that you’ve narrowed down to your favorites and begin interviewing them. Let them show you their wedding albums, preferably from start to finish, and make sure to ask for some of the work that they didn’t bring with them. Naturally they’ll bring their best work, but it’s important to get an idea of their other pieces as well.

Discuss Costs

Now is the time to discuss costs and get into the contractual side of things. Make sure you know what you’re getting yourself into and read over every legal detail before signing. Clear communication is the most important part of this step to ensure that you get what you need to make your special day go just as planned.
